High and low or near and far
Without reference they are fully lost
Hummingbird and Eagle approach
And I walk to draw them
Nearer to each other
The hummingbird perched
Still on the top of its low tree
The Bald Eagle soaring
Piercing spring blue sky
High above its ancient nest
They approach each other
Me pretending to be oblivious
But manipulating time and space
As my feet and eyes play
With these two opposites
Then they collide – visually
Never noticing each other
Or what I saw by circling my head
Drawing them near and forcing them far
Amazed because they were so
Similar in perceived size
Yet so different in nature
Both of them knowing
I was there
But neither aware
Of the other
Without reference they are fully lost
Hummingbird and Eagle approach
And I walk to draw them
Nearer to each other
The hummingbird perched
Still on the top of its low tree
The Bald Eagle soaring
Piercing spring blue sky
High above its ancient nest
They approach each other
Me pretending to be oblivious
But manipulating time and space
As my feet and eyes play
